How to add Chemicals to your pool

Adding pool chemicals to your pool can help keep the water clean and balanced. Here are the general steps for adding pool chemicals to your pool:

  1. Test the Water: Before adding any chemicals, test the pH, alkalinity, and chlorine levels of your pool water using a test kit. This will help you determine which chemicals you need to add and in what amounts.

  2. Wear Protective Gear: It's important to protect yourself when handling pool chemicals. Wear gloves, eye protection, and a face mask to prevent exposure to the chemicals.

  3. Pre-Dissolve the Chemicals: Some chemicals, such as shock or granular chlorine, should be dissolved in a bucket of water before adding them to the pool. Follow the instructions on the chemical packaging for the proper amount of chemical to add and how to dissolve it.

  4. Add the Chemicals: Slowly pour the chemicals into the pool, near the return jet. Do not add the chemicals near the skimmer or in one spot, as this can cause staining or damage to the pool surfaces.

  5. Wait and Circulate: After adding the chemicals, wait a few hours before swimming to allow the chemicals to mix thoroughly with the water. Turn on your pool's circulation system to help distribute the chemicals evenly throughout the pool.

  6. Retest and Adjust: After a few hours, retest the water to ensure that the pH, alkalinity, and chlorine levels are within the desired range. If needed, adjust the levels by adding more chemicals.

It is important to follow the instructions on the chemical packaging for the proper amount and method of adding the chemical to the pool. Adding too much of a chemical or adding it improperly can cause damage to the pool surfaces or equipment and can be dangerous for swimmers.
