Winterise the Pool
Always Prepared
If you live in an area with cold winters and plan to close your pool for the season, there are several steps you can take to get your pool ready for winter:

Clean the Pool: Before closing your pool, it is important to thoroughly clean it to remove any debris or contaminants. Brush the walls and floor of the pool, vacuum any debris, and skim the surface of the water to remove any leaves or other debris.
Balance the Water Chemistry: Test the pH, alkalinity, and chlorine levels of your pool and adjust them as needed. It is important to maintain proper water chemistry even when the pool is not in use to prevent damage to the pool surfaces and equipment.
Lower the Water Level: Drain the pool water to a level below the skimmer and return lines. This will help prevent damage from freezing and expansion of the water in the pool.
Winterize the Plumbing: Use a shop vac to blow out any remaining water from the plumbing lines, including the skimmer and return lines. Add pool antifreeze to the lines to prevent any remaining water from freezing and causing damage.
Cover the Pool: Cover the pool with a winter cover to prevent debris from entering the pool and to help maintain the water chemistry. Be sure to choose a cover that is appropriate for your climate and pool size.
Store Equipment: Remove any pool equipment, such as the pump, filter, and heater, and store them in a dry, protected area for the winter. This will help prevent damage from freezing temperatures and snow or ice.

By following these steps, you can properly prepare your pool for winter and help ensure that it will be ready to use again when the weather warms up.
